How to get found when someone searches “near me”

The firm three miles away keeps beating you on the map. Here is what actually moves you into the top three, done properly and without any tricks.

Most of your customers never scroll. They type “skip hire near me” or “house clearance in [town]”, glance at the little map that appears, and tap one of the first three results. Getting into that top three is local SEO, and for a clearance or removals business it comes down to a few unglamorous things done properly.

Your Google Business Profile is the shopfront

Before anyone reaches your website, they see your Google listing: the name, the star rating, the photos, the hours. If that profile is half finished, Google reads it as a half-hearted business and ranks you to match.

Fill every field. Pick the right primary category, set the real service area by the towns and postcodes you cover, add proper opening hours, and put up photos of the actual lorries, skips and crews. It sounds obvious. Most of your competitors have not done it.

Reviews, and replies to them

The firms sitting at the top of the map almost always have more recent reviews, and they reply to them. Google treats a steady trickle of fresh reviews as a sign you are busy and trusted.

Ask every happy customer, and make it one tap by texting them the link. Then reply to the ones you get, even the short ones. A run of five-star reviews with a friendly reply under each does more for your ranking than most paid tricks, and it costs nothing.

A page for each thing you do, in each place you do it

One thin homepage cannot rank for every service in every town. “Skip hire in [town]” deserves its own page that names the real estates and streets you serve, answers the questions people ask, and links straight to booking.

Build those pages once and they keep working. Someone in that town searches, finds a page that is clearly about their area, and calls the firm that looks local. That firm is you.

Slow, and worth it

Local SEO does not spike the way ads do. It compounds. Six months of the basics done properly, the profile, the reviews, the local pages, will quietly move you up the map and keep you there long after a paused ad campaign would have gone quiet.
